We asked one of our Team Leaders, Winston, to give us an insight into his change of career and joining Bespoke Guardians.
My background
I had the privilege of working as a police officer, within the private security sector, both as a trainer and as an operator, before joining the team at Bespoke Guardians. The reasons I joined the police were to serve the community and make a difference to people’s lives, being there to support them through the most difficult and challenging times. I have worked alongside the care services and other partner agencies, usually in an emergency situation, and have always had the heart to help people get back on their feet and move forward in life, to whatever that looks like for them, whilst also healing in the process and overcoming difficulties, whatever that would be.
Joining Bespoke Guardians
My first impression of the core team at Bespoke Guardians, is a group of people who share the values and vision that I hold, to help some of the most disadvantaged children. I quickly built a great rapport within the company and the benefit of having them utilize my previous skills, whilst also supporting and developing me in the areas that were lacking, to help the young people that we care for. I find the staff around me are quick to help, but also open to input from myself, to always improve the service, to build on the training I received.
Job Satisfaction
I feel that the transition into this sector has been amazing and very smooth, completing the circle of the service in helping others. Instead of disappearing off to another call or demand, I get the benefit of building a relationship with the young person, and first hand seeing the positive impact on their lives. We are not willing to give up on them, which is sadly something they have often experienced, and we turn up and time and time again. I can honestly say I have never felt so fulfilled in a role and I look forward to the years ahead, hearing the accounts of lives changed, knowing I have been part of that process. Doing what others wont and seeing the positive outcomes that most think are not possible.
